Is it really blacked out?
Drop in a PDF that someone has blacked out. This tool checks whether the underlying text can still be recovered, and looks for a few other common leaks. It only reads. It never changes your file. Your file is not transmitted.
Prove it stays on this device
- Load this page.
- Turn off your Wi‑Fi (or enable airplane mode).
- Drop in a PDF — the check still runs.

Recoverable text
The text below came from your own file in this browser tab. Revealing it is optional.
Anyone with the file can do the same.
What to do about it
Free to use here. $29 to own it as a file you keep and run with the wifi off, in the Private Files pack.
What this is not
- It does not make anybody compliant with any law, and it does not certify anything.
- Not a redaction tool. It does not remove, fix, clean, or export a modified PDF.
- Not a guarantee. A clean result means these checks found nothing — not that the file is safe.
- Not a way to hide anything from courts, regulators, or law enforcement.
Honest limits
- Encrypted or password-protected PDFs are not opened.
- Very large files may exhaust the browser tab’s memory.
- These checks do not detect everything. A clean result is not a guarantee.
- Even perfectly removed text leaves the width of the removed area visible, which can hint at length. We do not check for that.
- Some non-Latin scripts may extract imperfectly.
- This tool does not fix anything. It only tells you what it found.
