Who is responsible. UtilForge is responsible for any details you give us. You can reach us at support@utilforge.org or through the contact page.
The short version
The tools do not send your files anywhere. They run inside your own web browser, on your own computer, and they work with the internet switched off. We never receive your documents, your photographs, or anything you type into a tool.
There are no advertising trackers. There is an optional update email, described below, and you only get it if you ask for it. What we do receive is below, and it is not much.
What we receive, and why
If you buy something. Purchases are handled by Gumroad, which sells the tools on our behalf and takes the payment. We never see your card details. Gumroad passes us your email address, your name if you gave one, your country, and what you bought. We use these to deliver what you paid for, to give refunds, to answer your questions, and to keep the sales records the law requires.
If you ask for update emails. The sign-up on the What’s new page is run by Gumroad, not by this website. You give Gumroad your email address, Gumroad passes it to us, and we use it only to tell you when a new tool is added or one is improved. Every email has an unsubscribe link. Nothing typed into a tool is part of this.
If you write to us. We receive your message and your email address, and we use them to reply to you.
When you visit the site. The site is hosted by Cloudflare. To deliver each page and to protect the site from attack, Cloudflare handles your internet address and basic details about your browser. Cloudflare also counts how many times each page is visited, using its Web Analytics, without cookies. The count records which page was opened, the country, and the kind of device and browser, and we see only the totals. We do not receive a list of visitors, and we do not keep one. The counter is not loaded on the tool pages or the contact page, which are the pages where you type, paste or choose anything, so nothing about what you check is ever part of the count.
Cookies. The site does not set any cookies of its own. Cloudflare may set a short-lived security cookie that helps it tell people apart from automated attacks. It is not used to track you.
What we never do
We never sell your details, never share them with advertisers, and never use them to build a profile of you.
Who else handles your details
| Who | What for |
|---|---|
| Gumroad | Selling the tools, taking payment, delivering the files, and collecting the email address of anyone who asks for update emails |
| Cloudflare | Hosting the site, protecting it, passing on email sent to our addresses, and counting visits to the site’s pages with Cloudflare Web Analytics, which sets no cookies. The tool pages do not load it. |
| Google (Gmail) | The inbox our support email arrives in, and the one our replies are sent from |
| YouTube (Google) | Some guides show a UtilForge video. Until you press play, the page shows a play button and nothing is loaded from YouTube. When you press play, the video loads from youtube-nocookie.com, YouTube’s privacy-enhanced address, under YouTube’s own privacy policy. |
Gumroad, Cloudflare and Google are based in the United States, and each protects the details it handles under its own published terms.
How long we keep things
Sales records are kept for five years, the period South African tax law requires, and no longer.
Emails are deleted within twelve months of a conversation ending, unless they are needed to settle a refund.
What you can ask for
You can ask to see what we hold about you, to have it corrected, or to have it deleted. You can also object to how we use it. Write to us through the contact page and we will answer within one month.
If you are unhappy with our answer, you can complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office in the United Kingdom at ico.org.uk, to the Information Regulator in South Africa at inforegulator.org.za, or to the data protection authority where you live.
Who UtilForge is for
UtilForge is for adults. The tools do not collect anything from anybody.
