Remove the location from your photos.

100% freeNo sign-upsNo trackingKeeps working with wifi off

Remove the location, camera model, date and other hidden details stored inside photos before you share them, without uploading the photos anywhere. Each photo shows what it was carrying. The picture itself stays exactly as it was, unless you choose to make it smaller.

The short answer. Yes, you can remove the location from a photo for free without uploading it. Drop JPG, PNG or WebP photos here, read what each one was carrying and press Remove the details. The cleaning happens inside this browser tab.

Drop photos here

JPG, PNG or WebP, as many as you like. Each one shows what it was carrying.

Your files stay on this device

The page reads your files into memory in this tab and does the work there. Nothing is uploaded, emailed or copied to a server. The page’s security setting (a Content Security Policy) also stops it from sending anything out, and its libraries load from the same site as the page.

  • No waiting queue and no cloud folder.
  • Press Reset or close the tab, and the files are gone from memory.
  • You can test it: switch the wifi off once the page has loaded, and it still works.

What a photo can carry

Phones and cameras write a hidden record into each photo, called EXIF (Exchangeable Image File Format). It can hold the exact place the photo was taken, the date and time, and the make and model of the phone. Editing apps can add more, such as captions, an author’s name or notes.

What this page does about it

It reads each photo in this tab and cuts those records out of the file, leaving the picture data untouched, so there is no loss of quality. It keeps one small setting that tells phones which way up to show the photo, so pictures do not appear sideways. Choosing a smaller size redraws the photo, which also leaves every hidden detail behind.

What this tool cannot do

It cannot change what the photo shows. A street sign, a house number, a shop sign or a view from a window can still give a place away. iPhone photos in the High Efficiency Image Container format go through the iPhone photo converter on this site, which can take out the location while converting.

Questions and answers

How do I remove the location from a photo?

Drop the photo on this page, check what it was carrying and press Remove the details. Download the cleaned copy and share that one. The original photo on your device is not changed.

How can I tell if my photo has a location in it?

Drop it here. The page lists what each photo carries, such as the location where it was taken, the camera and the date, before anything is changed.

Do messaging apps remove the location for me?

Some apps remove it when they send a photo and some keep it, and it can depend on whether the photo is sent as a picture or as a file. Cleaning the photo first means you do not have to rely on the app.

Will cleaning lower the quality of my photo?

No. With Keep the full size, only the hidden records are cut out and the picture data stays exactly as it was. The other sizes redraw the photo smaller on purpose.

Who made this?

UtilForge makes it. UtilForge is a website of free cybersecurity tools and small calculators. The About page explains why the tools were made, and the Contact page is the way to reach us.

Is this a scam site?

A person does not have to take UtilForge's word for it, so here are things to check. This page does not ask for payment, an account or card details. The tool is free. UtilForge also sells optional packs of tools separately, on Gumroad, and this tool works without them. The page carries a security setting (a Content Security Policy, a rule the browser enforces) that forbids it from sending anything out, so your files cannot be uploaded from here. To test it, open the page, switch the wifi off and use the tool. It carries on working, because the page and its libraries are already on your device.

What happens when I close the page?

Nothing is kept. While the page is open, your files sit in the memory of the browser tab. The page does not use cookies, local storage, session storage or IndexedDB (the browser's built-in database), and it puts nothing about your files in the page address. Closing the tab, or pressing Reset, drops them from memory. The one thing that stays is a file you save yourself with the Download button. Your original files are never changed.

Does it cost anything, and do I need to sign in?

No. The tool is free, and you can start straight away. UtilForge also sells optional packs separately, such as Redaction Studio ($29 to own) and Family Safety Tools (pay what you want, including nothing). This tool does not need either.

Handling private documents at work?

The Artificial Intelligence Tools for Work pack puts the document checks in one folder on your own computer, so they work with the internet off.
