The question viewers ask most under scam videos is what to do next. This atlas gives the official reporting routes and the money-back rules for 38 countries and the European Union, read at each official site on 26 October 2026, for creators, trainers, helplines and journalists to use and to read out on camera.
First, in every country: stop contact with the scammer, call your bank or payment provider on the number on your card or in its own app, and report the scam. The sooner the bank hears, the more it can stop or recover.

- Contact the card issuer, bank, payment app, wire transfer company, gift card issuer or cryptocurrency exchange immediately and ask for a refund or reversal (Federal Trade Commission guidance). Credit cards: Truth in Lending and Fair Credit Billing rules limit liability for unauthorised charges to $50; billing-error disputes must reach the issuer within 60 days after the first bill showing the error was sent. Debit cards and other electronic transfers: Regulation E (12 CFR 1005.6) caps liability at $50 if the customer reports within 2 business days of learning of a lost or stolen card, up to $500 after that, and unauthorised transfers shown on a statement must be reported within 60 days of the statement being sent or the customer can be liable for later transfers. Regulation E covers unauthorised electronic transfers only; a transfer the victim authorised (for example a payment sent to a scammer through Zelle or a wire) has no federal refund right. Cryptocurrency payments do not have the same legal protections as credit and debit cards (Federal Trade Commission).
